Teachers
The festival will feature teachers from some of the best orchestras and brass chamber ensembles from across the world. These guest artists will present lectures and masterclasses on solo, chamber, orchestral, jazz and ancient music. This is a festival of musical diversity that will enable experiences like no other.
ALFONSO GONZÁLEZ BARQUÍN
He pursued his studies in Spain with José Miguel Sambartolomé and Luis González, and furthered his training in Germany with Reinhold Friedrich and Laura Vukobratovic. He also refined his studies in France with Pierre Thibaud and in the United States with Thomas Hooten. During his training years, he was a member of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra and the Ibero-American Youth Orchestra, as well as an academy member of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker. Throughout his career, he has held positions of great responsibility in major European orchestras, including the Brussels Philharmonic. Since 2018, he has been principal trumpet of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He combines his artistic activity with teaching and also carries out significant pedagogical work at Musikene, the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country.
BERTOLD STECHER
His early successes in competitions led him to study at the Vorarlberger Landeskonservatorium with Lothar Hilbrand and later at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg with Hans Gansch. He began his professional career in 2012 as principal trumpet of the Haydn Orchestra in Bolzano and, since then, has appeared as a guest in principal positions with leading ensembles such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg. In 2017, he joined the Deutsche Oper Berlin as principal trumpet and, since August 2022, he has been a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker. In addition to his orchestral activity, he maintains a strong connection with chamber music and teaching.
MANUEL DÁVILA
He completed his studies at the School of Advanced Musical Studies of Galicia with Javier Simó and at Musikene (San Sebastián) with Luis González, graduating with highest honors. He later completed his master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik in Karlsruhe with the internationally renowned soloist Reinhold Friedrich. He trained in youth orchestras such as the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, JONDE and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra. Since 2017, he has been principal trumpet of the Noord Nederlands Orkest and currently collaborates with orchestras and ensembles in Germany, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands, including the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, the National Orchestra of Spain, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Teatro Liceu, the Residentie Orkest The Hague, the Rotterdam Philharmonic and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia.
YAEL FIUZA SOUTO
He began her musical career with Luis Alberto González Amosa and Marcos Fernández Guzmán. She continued her studies at the School of Advanced Musical Studies of Santiago de Compostela with Javier Simó and completed them at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón with highest honors, receiving instruction from Arturo García, Rubén Marqués and Tamás Dávida. She has been a member of youth orchestras such as the Youth Orchestra of the Galicia Symphony, the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. She has collaborated with numerous national and international ensembles, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Staatsoper Berlin and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. She currently holds a tutti trumpet position in the Deutsche Oper Berlin and is a trumpet professor at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin.
ACHILLES LIARMAKOPOULOS
Recognized for his lyrical expressiveness and technical brilliance, Achilles Liarmakopoulos is one of the most outstanding and charismatic trombone soloists of today. After 13 years captivating audiences around the world as a member of Canadian Brass, he has built an intense international career as a soloist, teacher, and chamber musician. He has also been a member of the Athens State Orchestra, part of Triple Cortado, and frequently performs with Pink Martini. He trained at the Yale School of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the Philippos Nakas Conservatory in Athens, his hometown. After completing his studies, he won the position of principal trombone of the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra. Throughout his career, he has performed with ensembles such as The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Jacksonville Symphony, and the European Union Youth Orchestra, among many others. As a soloist, he has given concerts and masterclasses throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia, performing at some of the world’s most prestigious halls and institutions. Winner of numerous international awards, his discography includes several solo albums and many recordings with Canadian Brass. In 2013, he was invited by Rubén Blades to perform in his concerts at Lincoln Center and Madison Square Garden.
JUAN SAN JUAN
He completed his higher studies with highest honors at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Óscar Esplá” in Alicante with Felipe Lanuza, and studied a master’s degree in performance at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Professor Fabrice Millischer, later beginning a steadily growing professional career within the Spanish music scene. He is currently principal trombone of the Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid (ORCAM), professor at the Katarina Gurska Higher Center in Madrid, at the Higher Center of Music of Galicia, and at the Brass Academy in Alicante alongside Dani Perpiñán. He has worked as principal trombone with the orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the National Orchestra of France, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, among many others on the national scene.
RICARDO PEDRARES
He has been a member of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra as second principal trombone since 2018, developing his activity in one of Northern Europe’s leading symphonic ensembles. He completed his professional studies at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Santiago de Compostela, where he received the Special End-of-Degree Award in 2011, and finished his higher studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de A Coruña with highest honors, under the guidance of Arturo Centelles Fabado. In 2018, he completed a master’s degree at The Juilliard School in New York with Joseph Alessi. He was an active student at the School of Advanced Musical Studies of Galicia and a member of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Galicia. He has collaborated with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, Euskadiko Orkestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the BOS, the OSN and the Real Filharmonía de Galicia. Among his distinctions are first prize at the Asia Brass Festival in 2019 and first prize in the Frank Smith Tenor Trombone Competition in 2017.
YUN ZENG
He completed his studies at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he was admitted with the highest marks, under Professor Quan Wen. He received support from excellence programs for young talents, including the “Best of the Best Project” and the “Edifier Musician Foundation.” In the 2019–2020 academic year, he furthered his training at the Haute École de Musique de Genève with Bruno Schneider through the Erasmus program. Awarded in some of the world’s most prestigious competitions, Yun Zeng received distinctions at the ARD Competition in Munich (2021), the Tchaikovsky Competition (2019) and the Prague Spring Competition (2018), thereby consolidating an internationally projected career. As a soloist, he has performed with the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, the National Centre for the Performing Arts Orchestra, and various symphony orchestras in China, in addition to serving as artist-in-residence with the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra during the 2020–2021 season. His concerts have been broadcast by China Central Television, BR-Klassik and Medici.tv. Since 2022, he has served as principal horn of the Staatskapelle Berlin and, after winning the audition in November 2023, has held the principal horn position of the Berliner Philharmoniker since the 2024/25 season.
ANAIS ROMERO
She has developed a solid artistic and pedagogical career, establishing herself as one of the most outstanding performers of her generation. Throughout her training, she had the opportunity to study directly with major international figures such as Radovan Vlatković, Stefan Dohr and Radek Baborák. She completed her higher studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Óscar Esplá in Alicante with José Antonio Antolín Polo. She later expanded her training with a master’s degree in performance at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Markus Maskuniitty, as well as advanced studies at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with Radovan Vlatković and Rodolfo Epelde. In 2015, she obtained a position as academy member at the prestigious Karajan Akademie of the Berlin Philharmonic, where she collaborated for two years and received lessons from Stefan Dohr. In 2019, she was recognized by Queen Sofía with the award for the most outstanding student of her class. She has collaborated with orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the Munich Philharmonic, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. She is currently principal horn of ORCAM and assistant professor of the Fundación “la Caixa” Horn Chair at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía.
MARCOS CRUZ
He is principal horn of the Euskadiko Orkestra (Basque National Orchestra), a position he has held since 2023. His career reflects strong international projection and extensive experience in the symphonic field, establishing him as one of the Galician horn players with the greatest presence on today’s orchestral scene. He completed his higher studies in Zaragoza and later moved to Germany, where he completed his master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik Hannover under Professor Markus Maskuniitty. In recent years, he has developed an intense artistic activity with various professional orchestras in Europe, the Americas and Asia. He has been principal horn of the Osnabrücker Sinfonieorchester in Germany, associate principal horn of the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco in Mexico, and acting principal horn of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia. He has also collaborated with leading institutions such as the National Orchestra of France, the Asturias Symphony Orchestra, the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of India.
PERRY HOOGENDIJK
He studied at the Hilversum Conservatory, where he earned degrees in Performance and Pedagogy, and later completed his training at the conservatories of Essen and Detmold with Hans Nickel. In addition, he pursued further studies in Chicago with Gene Pokorny, Rex Martin and Charlie Vernon, also participating in one of the last masterclasses given by Arnold Jacobs. In 1997, he was invited by Roger Bobo to perform at the International Tuba Conference in Riva del Garda as a “Young Emerging Artist,” and in 1999 he was a finalist in the solo competition of the TubaMania festival in Sydney. Between 1996 and 2002, he was a member of the Noordhollands Philharmonisch Orkest before joining the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2004, where he has since developed an outstanding orchestral career. At the same time, he serves as professor at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Committed to expanding the solo tuba repertoire, in 2013 he released his CD Quicksilver, which has become a reference in the contemporary repertoire for the instrument. His activity combines performance, teaching and artistic commitment to the development of the tuba.
JOSEP GÓMEZ DONET
Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Castilla y León and regular collaborator as principal tuba of the Foundation Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid. A student from the beginning with David Llácer, principal tuba of the Orquesta de València, he completed his higher studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón in Zaragoza with Professor Pedro Castaño, finishing this stage with highest honors in his final recital. In 2016, he obtained a position as academy member of the National Orchestra of Spain and, in the same year, was admitted to the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, where he expanded his training with a master’s degree in performance under Professor Jens Bjørn-Larsen. He later also completed a Master’s in Music Research at the International University of La Rioja and a Master’s in Teacher Training at the Catholic University of Valencia. He has been a member of prestigious youth orchestras such as JONDE, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, the Gustav Mahler Academy Orchestra, JONC and the Ljubljana International Orchestra. Professionally, he collaborates with ensembles such as the National Orchestra of Spain, the Orquesta de València, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, ADDA Simfònica and the Foundation Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid, as well as different ensembles in Germany and Spain. In the chamber music field, he is a member of the Bessel Brass quintet and a founding member of Terra Brass, while also carrying out significant pedagogical and cultural work.
MIGUEL FRANQUEIRO
He was a finalist for the principal tuba position of the London Symphony Orchestra and obtained the status of first eligible candidate in the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio in Turin, later securing the same position in the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Since 2015, he has collaborated with various orchestras, including the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Orquesta de Extremadura, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra (RTVE), the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra (OSCYL), the National Orchestra of Spain (ONE), the Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Navarra Symphony Orchestra (OSN), the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS), among others.
